1996 Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride

Funds Raised: £42,000 Number of Riders: 171

There was a lot of 'special features' in this our 11th Ride. This started with a 'Welcome Reception in Paris' sponsored by Robin Sutherland. On the way from Rouen to Caen we visited Jumieges. The village is home to a famous abbey which once owned Hayling Island. Here the Mayor greeted us and there was a ceremonial signing of the 'Livre d'Or' and the presentation to each cyclist of a rather nice bag if cherries.

As we arrived at the Cafe Gondre at Pegasus Bridge we greeted by an accordion player arranged by Madam Gondree and the musical theme continued the following day when Ron Sonnets jazz band mounted on a lorry accompanied us on a ride back to our finish on Hayling.

We are unlikely to go to Gorron next year, but maybe in 2010, which is their 10th anniversary of the twinning.
