6-Day Ride
On Sunday 13th July 2008, over 140 cyclists accompanied by a 20-strong support crew will take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo. On Monday 14th July, they will cycle from St Malo to Rennes. So, this year, it is in Rennes where the Bastille day fireworks will be enjoyed. On Tuesday 15th, the riders will cycle from Rennes to Laval via Gorron - twinned with Hayling Island - for lunch. On Wednesday 16th, they will meet up with the 3-day riders ...
3½-Day Ride
On Tuesday 15th, more than 60 additional riders will take a coach and minibus, boarding the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo. These riders' bicycles will have been previously loaded carefully in a lorry. On Wednesday 16th, the coach and lorry will drop off the riders and their bikes en route to Angers, joining up with the 6-Day riders.
All riders will cycle along the Loire Valley into Angers, then to Tours on Thursday 17th and Alencon on Friday 18th. On Saturday 19th, the group will arrive at Caen where, like last year, an end-of-ride party will be enjoyed in the castle.
On Sunday 20th, the group will cycle to the Fastcat from Ouistreham to Portsmouth and cycle on to Hayling Island, to a welcome at Hayling College, organised by Hayling United Football Club.
