Sailing Club Venue For Reunion Night A Great Success

Added: Wed 21st Nov 2007
Hayling Island Sailing Club was this year the venue for a well-attended Reunion Night for riders and supporters on Friday, 2nd November, preceded by an equally well-attended AGM. A lot of sponsorship money was handed in and the excellent buffet, Dave Collins's new DVD of this year's 22nd '£1,000,000 Ride' and music from local group, 'The Kings of Rock and Roll', all contributed to a night enjoyed by all. Additionally, we had the re-presentation of the Bike Ride Awards, accompanied by words of congratulation about the quality of this year's ride and news about next year, from President Pete McQuade and Chairman, Paul Fisher.

Fundraising
We are contemplating an amazing 'Double Whammy' as not only is the anticipated £1,000,000 in cumulative fundraising getting even closer, but the pledges from this year's 22nd Ride now unexpectedly exceed £100,000, close to the record year of the 20th Ride in 2005, when we had 30 more riders.

Santa Ride
Yes, it's that time of the year again, meaning that we are looking forward to a jolly day's cycling on Sunday, 16th December. We always have a great time just before Christmas, when we dress up as Father or Mother Christmas and go cycling in and around Hampshire and West Sussex, visiting welcoming hostelries and imparting seasonal cheer. Last year there were over 60 red-clad riders and so we hope for a similar, if not larger, turnout this year. We shall be assembling at Wetherspoons in Chichester for breakfast at about 11am, then visiting various pubs on our merry way back to the Island.

Plans For 2008
Entries are coming in thick and fast for 'Le Tour de Tours', possibly because of the radically revised route. Entries from new riders exceed those of veterans at this stage - a very exciting development! Dates are 8th and 10th July, returning on Sunday 15th July, for a Welcome Back reception at Hayling College, courtesy of HUFC. Reservation Forms are available and places can be secured with a reservation fee of £75. The 6-Day Ride fee is £395 and 3-Day £295. Riders are expected to raise at least £150, for the charity of their choice. Formal entry forms will be available in January.
