SANTA RIDE 2008

SANTA RIDE 2008

Added: Sat 29th Nov 2008
Yes, it’s that time of the year again, meaning that we are looking forward to a jolly day’s cycling on Sunday, 21st December. We always have a great time just before Christmas, when we dress up as Father or Mother Christmas and go cycling in and around Hampshire and West Sussex, visiting welcoming hostelries and imparting seasonal cheer. Last year there were over 60 red-clad riders and so we hope for a similar, if not larger, turnout this year. We shall be assembling at Wetherspoons in Chichester for breakfast at about 11am, then visiting various pubs on our merry way back to the Island.

BIKE RIDE REUNION AND AGM 2008

Our well-attended annual Reunion Party took place at the new Function Suite at Newtown House Hotel on Saturday 15th November, preceded by our AGM at 7pm. We had a large number of riders and support crew at the Party, enjoyed by all, but fewer at the AGM!

FUNDRAISING FROM RIDE 2008

We are very pleased to say that the sponsorship money is coming in well from this year’s ride and we confidently expect to reach the cumulative total of £1,100,000, with over £35,000 already been recorded as collected, much of it going direct to Riders’ charities nowadays, rather than going via ACE, our charitable channel. There will still be funds available for local deserving causes, so it may be worth writing in, if you feel that you have a special case. At the committee’s discretion, we have recently given to ‘Aiming High’ at Hayling College, the CLIC Sargent ‘Yummy Mummy’ night, Reach (a charity for children who have lost limbs) and Evolution Twirlers, to support their new costumes for participation in Britain’s Got Talent.

ENTRIES FOR 2009

Reservation forms for the coming year’s ride are not normally available until Reunion night, let alone full entry forms. However, due to the high demand for participation in the ride these days, we designed the new entry form early and made it available as a download from our website, the net result being that we already have over 80 entries and expect to be at capacity of 200 or so riders even earlier than his year, when the Ride was full by mid-January. So – if you want to be with us, it’s best to get your entry form in!
