Here is all the old news from previous Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle rides.

Cycle Hayling Cycle Map

The newly produced map is now available from all sorts of outlets on the Island, such as the library, the community centre, the tourist information office, pubs and other meeting points. It is A3 in size, but a copy can be viewed under Cycle Hayling and Downloads, then printed as A4 (or A3 if you have an A3 printer!). Best to get a proper copy, tho.

Reunion News

In early November, the Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a party at Seacourt. For me and Paul Fisher, who joined me in Year 2, it was obviously a pretty emotional occasion. We had never dreamt that the event would come this far! It was even more poignant for us, since Paul was standing down as chairman and although, while I was planning to stay on as Preside...

Tour de France – Route 2011 Announced

The Tour will be going through the region in which we shall be cycling next year, but it will be the week before we are there. On 7th July the 226km day starts in Dinan, near St Malo, and ends up in Lisieux, no doubt crossing some of our next week’s route. They are then transported to Le Mans, where they start a 216km day on 8th July, en route to Chateaurou...

Introduction

Dear All

It only seems like yesterday that we were cycling through France, occasionally battling with the wind and coping with the challenge of 90+ mile days, but the weather was generally fine, especially on that day along the Loire and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves - to various degrees!

Assembling the results of the ...

Paris to Hayling’s 25th Year

Le Tour d’Argent (Silver Ride) – The Ride for Meryl

We returned in triumph on Sunday 18th July, after a celebratory and historic 25th Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride, resplendent in our newly designed commemorative road jerseys, given as a surprise to all riders. The ride was quite tough, with two of the 5 days over 90 miles, but everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge, especially at the end...

Bike Ride Christmas Card

We have decided to produce a Christmas Card this year and hope that you will support this by buying some.

The photo on the front will be the one illustrated and we trust you will find it adequately ‘Chistmassy’. The card is a smallish one - 5½” x 3¼”

There is a serious side to this, too, as all profits from the sale of this card will go to MacMillan Cancer Support, in memory of Meryl Browne...

Le Tour de Tours II

24th Bike Ride endures the rough and the smooth, with great success

This year’s ride took the same general route as last year’s groundbreaking challenge, but with some new ‘tweakings’ e.g. a new route for the second half of the first day for the 6-Dayers, from Dingé to Rennes and a new route from Vitré to Laval on the second day, as this year we didn’t divert on the punishing route via Gorron.

Charity Evening at the Newtown

The annual Charity Cheque Presentation Evening took place in the rather more intimate surroundings of the Newtown’s new function suite on Friday, 3rd April, rather than at Seacourt, the location for the last several years. Nearly all of the 200 riders participating in last year’s ‘Tour de Tours’ Ride had collected their sponsorship by this date, with only one remaining on the ‘naughty list’, accor...

BIKE RIDE CHARITIES EVENING AT THE NEWTOWN

For the first time for many years this is to take place at the Newtown House Hotel, in the new function suite, on Friday 3rd of April. This is after many years in the Sports Hall at Seacourt, where have always been well looked after and sometimes have had more than 100 guests in the past. Since many riders are now sending their fundraising directly to their chosen charity(ies), often via JustGivin...

SANTA RIDE 2008

Yes, it’s that time of the year again, meaning that we are looking forward to a jolly day’s cycling on Sunday, 21st December. We always have a great time just before Christmas, when we dress up as Father or Mother Christmas and go cycling in and around Hampshire and West Sussex, visiting welcoming hostelries and imparting seasonal cheer. Last year there were over 60 red-clad riders and so we hope ...

New route for Ride 2008 a great success

The greatest challenge that the Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride has faced in its 23-year history was met with outstanding success, during the week of 13th to 20th July. 200 riders set out, 140 on the longer 6-Day 440-mile route and 60 on the 3½-Day route and they all enjoyed some fabulous weather and scenery, especially in the Loire Valley, the southe...

We’re off again!

Planning the Ride
As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail. However, we believe that one of the reasons why the Paris to Hayling has been such a success and why riders have returned year after year, is precisely because we have been pretty good at planning.

With a total change of route and with the move from Paris to the Loire Valley, planning has been more important than ...

Preparations for ‘LE TOUR DE TOURS’ 2008

Three more ‘recces’ have now taken place in advance of the event in July, in the attempt to ensure that our new great endeavour goes as smoothly on our new routes and destinations as it has in the past, when Paris or Versailles were our focus. Pete Alloway and Fred Dyer drove the route so that the route notes could be checked and any improvements added, positions for direction signs determined and...

It was alright on the night!

The annual Charity Cheque Presentation Evening at Seacourt took place on Saturday, 5th April. All riders participating in last year’s £1,000,000 Ride had collected their sponsorship by this date, which is a surprising first for the bike ride, as there are usually at least a couple of very late sponsorship collectors (those on the ‘naughty list’, according to Charities Liaison committee member, Ker...

Bike Ride Charity Night At Seacourt

The annual Charity Cheque Presentation Evening at Seacourt takes place this Saturday, 5th April. Kerry West has been extremely successful in chasing the sponsorship collections and there is now only about £4,000 outstanding of the £105,000 pledged from last year's ride, including Gift Aid, which means that over £100,000 has been raised, for the second time.

Le Tour de Tours

We have now agreed upon a slogan for next year's 23rd event 'Le Tour de Tours'. This is to echo the name of 'Le Tour de France', the cycling world's premier event and to reflect the fact that we shall be visiting Tours, the beautiful main city of the Loire region, but not Paris or Versailles, for the first time in the ride's history. We have also decided upon entry fees, after much debate, having ...

Plans For 2008

We have at last decided the route for next year, having considered seven different proposals. As mentioned previously, having reached (we hope!) the landmark fundraising figure of £1,000,000, we felt it was time for a change and so the Bike Ride is not visiting either Paris or Versailles for the first time in 23 years. Apart from visiting different places, the main necessary criterion to fulfill i...
