| First some general notes. The figures in brackets are approx. mileage from Speen Court to key turnings or landmarks so that you can gauge distances before you start looking for the next turning. Some of the narrow country lanes need care due to unsound surfaces. Please beware of debris, mud or holes, especially if you are riding in a group and cannot see clearly ahead. Please also note that the numbers on the map above are an irrelevance and are simply there as a guide for the author (In other words, Codge didn't know how to remove them). From the western exit of Speen Court, turn right onto the Old Bath Road. Turn left (0.3) in Speen Lane and stay on this road to the end when the road joins the A4. Turn left onto the A4 (1.0) and stay on this road across the two roundabouts (crossing the A34) and continuing along the A4 (Bath Road). Continue on the A4 through to Hungerford. Turn left (7.4) just after passing Dark Lane on the right, and follow this road, ignoring the left turn into Hungerford Road and the right turn into Park Street. Turn left (8.7) into Inkep Road. At the junction with Sadlers Road the road turns into Craven Road (10.1). Continue into Craven Road. Turn right (11.0) into a local road (unknown), turn immediately right again, then left then right into Spray Road (11.2). Stay on Spray road until you get to Ham Road (13.2) and follow this road for about 1 mile. Turn left into Kingston Road (14.2) and turn right (14.5) into Burr Lane. Follow Burr Lane (heading for Great Bedwyn) through Carvers Hill (forking right just after crossing the A338) until the road becomes Brook Street. Continue into the High Street (17.2) and then turn right into Browns Lane and stop here to imbibe. Continue along Browns Lane taking the first left (17.8) heading for Chisbury. Continue through Chisbury across the A4 heading for Ramsbury and Newtown. At Ramsbury, turn right (22.4) onto Newtown Road. Stay on this road until you turn right (23.4) onto the B4192. just after passing the left turn onto the B4001 (don't take this turn) you need to continue left (25.4) into Leverton Lane heading for Eddington. Turn left (27.8) onto the A338 and follow this road (roundabout) under the M4. Turn right (29.5) onto the B4000 heading for Wickham. Turn left (33.3) onto the High Street, Westbrook. Turn right at the crossroads (34.6) and stay on this road as it heads south east, under the A34 into Lambourne Road (37.0). bear left (37.2) into Grove Road. Turn right (37.7) onto the B4494, Oxford Road, and head for home ((38.2)Speen Court). Well Done. Ed Dening & Codge |
