Littlehampton (Pub - The Arun View)

A long ride, but flat. A trip to The Arun View pub in Littlehampton. Good practice for the C2C ride in a couple of weeks.

Note – this is a very flat ride, with no major issues other than the need to take care through the middle of Chichester and be very careful crossing over the dual carriageway towards Oving – and equally careful on the return leg.

From the ship turn right, go up the Billy trail to the museum (1.0). Turn right and over the traffic lights (1.4) past the one stop. Bear left and through the underpass.

Follow the main road through Emsworth (2.8), past the Sussex Brewery (3.2) and on to Southbourne (4.1). Just after the Southbourne roundabout turn left up Inlands Road (4.5). Follow this road to the T junction with Broad Road (5.8) and turn left up the hill and over the motorway. Turn right (6.2) down West Ashling Road and follow this road all the way past the Richmond Arms (7.3) and the duck pond and at the T junction turn right (7.7).

Follow this road, back over the motorway, past Black Boy Lane (9.8) and at the crossroads go straight across (10.0). Follow this road back under the motorway and over the railway line and turn left at the T junction (10.9). Cross the railway again through the little gate – BE CAREFUL – (11.1) and head on up Westgate over two roundabouts, past the Cathedral and out the other side of Chichester city centre into East Street (12.1).

Bear left up the one way system (12.2) then turn right (12.3) then left then bear left into Oving Road (12.6). Follow this road to the crossroads with the main A27 traffic lights (13.1).

Go across the A27 but be very careful this is a major dual carriageway. Follow the road till the right hand turn into Drayton Lane (13.7). Go down this road and turn left, before the railway crossing, towards Oving (14.2). Follow the road through Oving and head towards Aldingbourne. Go past Aldingbourne and at the T Junction with Nyton Road turn right onto the B2233 (17.1). Turn left by the Island Pub and on to the A29. At the roundabout (18.1) turn right towards Barnham, down Barnham Road.

Just before you go under the railway bridge turn left (19.6) then turn right (19.7) into Lake Lane. Follow this road round to the junction with Yapton Lane (21). Turn right, across the railway then turn left into Ford Lane (21.2). At the next junction (22.5) turn right – Ford Road – through Climping, and on to the junction with the A259 (23.6).

Go across the A259 into Crookthorn lane and on to Ferry Road, turn/bear right (24.1). Follow the Ferry road and across the bridge (24.8) Turn left for the Arun View pub (25.0)!

After lunch return from the Arun View back over the bridge and along Ferry Road, and bear left and follow the road round to the mini roundabout. Go straight across the A259 into Church Road - sign Climping Church (26.4). Take the first left into Horsemere Green Lane (sign South Coast Cycle Route) (26.8). At the T junction turn right (sign South Coast Cycle Route) (27.4).

Proceed along this road into Yapton where you carry straight on along the B2233 towards Barnham (28.4). In Barnham turn sharp left under the railway bridge (30). Carry straight on Nyton Lane at the roundabout with a stone statue (a Lion on top) along the A29 (31.3).

Turn right by the The Island Pub along the B2233 sign Aldingbourne (31.6). Turn left sign ‘Oving 2’ (32.4). Pass through Oving past the Gribble Inn on your right (34.7). Turn right at T junction towards Shopwyke (35.4). Turn left at the T junction on the B2144 sign Chichester (35.9). Go straight over the traffic lights TAKE CARE THIS JUNCTION IS HECTIC (36.5). At the next give way sign by the Four Chesnuts Pub turn right towards Chichester (37). Dismount to go through Chichester passing the Cathedral on your left (37.6). Go through the gates at the railway crossing – dismount again please (38.4). You will join the A259 at Fishbourne.

Proceed along this road through Bosham (40.7) and onto Southbourne (18.4). After Emsworth you should turn right under the tunnel (45.7). Turn right into Havant (45.9) and turn left at the Museum onto the cycle track (46.5) and back to the Ship (47.5)
