| Fishbourne Ride (The Bulls Head - Fishbourne) A 20 Mile Practice Ride First some general notes. As most of these rides are on country roads, please beware of debris, mud or holes. This year, due to the snow and ice there are more potholes than in previous seasons so, especially if you are riding in a group and cannot see clearly ahead, PLEASE TAKE CARE. Meet in The Ship car park for a departure time of 11:00. Turn right from the Ship car park and right (0.2) onto the Cycle Track and follow this to the car park where you bear left and turn right onto East Street in Havant. Follow this road to the traffic lights where you turn left onto Southleigh road (1.6). Follow Southleigh Road across the level crossing, and along towards Westbourne sweeping round the right hand corner and on until you come to the right/left dogleg give way junction to cross the Horndean Road (3.1). Go straight on down this road and over the mini roundabout (3.6) and into Westbourne. In Westbourne stay on the main road as it bears right in the village centre (4.0) then turn sharp right about 150 yards further on (Whitechimney Row) towards Southbourne (4.2). Stay on this bendy road until you get to a T junction in Woodmancote where you turn right (5.4). When you get to the T junction at Cheesmans lane turn left then immediately right towards West Ashling (6.7) Follow this road all the way into West Ashling and past the Richmond Arms on the right (7.8). Past the pond and up the rise to the next T junction (8.1). Turn right. Follow this road until it becomes Clay lane, as you pass the turn off to Bosham (on your left) (9.0) there is a steady rise, as you start to ride downhill you will see a black barn building on the right, the road surface at the bottom of this hill is sometimes littered with debris, so be very careful when you approach this point (9.2). Carry on along this road and over the motorway, as the road levels out take the next turn right (10.3), down Blackboy Lane. At the end of this road turn left onto the old A27. Cycle past the Barreg bicycle shop, and up the rise. Just after the pedestrian crossing traffic lights you will see The Bulls Head on your right (11.4). This is our lunch time stop. There is a large car park round the back. This is also the venue for our first ‘Special Event’ of the season, but not until later. The Jazz Night music is due to start at 20:30, but, if you plan to come and want food, you will need to arrive by 19:00. You may be able to give the landlord your evening food order whilst you sup a lunch time tipple. Once you are suitably refreshed the route home is very straight forward, just follow the old A27, through Bosham, Chidham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, and Emsworth. As the cycle lane runs out the other side of Emsworth, turn right across the road (17.9) and cycle through the underpass. Continue towards Havant along the old Emsworth Road until you get back to the left turn back down the Hayling Bily cycle track (18.6). Follow the track back to Langstone and return to the days finishing point at The Ship car park (19.9). Well done – see you tonight back at The Bulls Head. This destination is the first 'Special Event' location for this years schedule, in celebration of our twenty-five years. Whether you can or can't make the lunch time ride, you are all invited to the Jazz night at the Bulls Head in the evening - the music starts at 20:30, but if you want food arrive by 19:00. There is a large car back to the rear of the pub. A good opportunity for new riders to meet the gang and for veterans to renew old acquaintances. |
