Bosham (Pub - The Richmond Arms - West Ashling)

A relatively flat, family-friendly ride, taking you to Bosham harbour, then back home via the Richmond Arms in West Ashling.

First some general notes. As most of these rides are on country roads, please beware of debris, mud or holes, especially if you are riding in a group and cannot see clearly ahead. PLEASE TAKE CARE.

Turn right from the Ship car park and right (0.2) onto the Cycle Track and follow this to the car park where you bear left and turn right (1.0) onto East Street in Havant. Follow this road straight through the traffic lights by the One Stop (1.4) straight over the roundabout and under the A27 By-Pass through to Emsworth.

Go straight over the Emsworth roundabout (2.8) and on to the turning for Thorney Island (3.3). Turn right here into Thornham Road then left at Thornham Lane (3.8). Turn left again by the white (ish) wall following the South Coast Cycle route (4.1). Bear right at the fork (thatched houses ahead) (4.7), then at the main road turn right (4.9).

Continue on the main road going straight over the roundabout at Southbourne (5.1) and turn right at the Barleycorn Pub (Cot Lane) (6.2). Follow this twisting road past the Pub and Church going right at the sharp bend at Chidham Lane (7.6) then bearing left at the entrance to Cobnor House (7.9). Continue on until you reach the main road again where you turn right (9.2).

At the Bosham roundabout turn right into Delling Lane (10.4) then at the Berkley Arms Pub (11.0) turn LEFT into Bosham Lane (sign to White Barn) then follow this road bearing left up Walton Lane until you come to the junction with the main road (11.7).

Turn left at this junction, and back to the Bosham roundabout, turn right (third exit) onto B2146. At the T junction with Clay Lane (12.8) turn left. Follow this road down the hill, round the right hand bend in the road past Ratham Lane and onwards past a junction with a signpost island, (13.3) follow the road into the village and turn left (13.9) down Down Street. Follow this road past the pond and on to The Richmond Arms, todays lunch time stop (14.3).

Once suitably refreshed upon leaving the pub head west up the hill and follow the road all the way to the junction with Cheesemans Lane (15.3). Turn left then immediately right into West Ashling road heading towards Woodmancote. Go past the Woodmancote pub (16.4) and carry on down the road out of the village, bearing to the right and up a small rise and on to the next junction. At the junction (17.1) turn left onto the B2147 (Foxbury Lane) and on into Westbourne.

In Westbourne turn sharp right just after the Stagshead Pub (18.0). Soon after passing the Good Intent Pub you turn left into Long Copse Lane about 50 yds after a hump back bridge (18.4). This road eventually bends sharp left becoming Holly Bank Lane.

At the T junction at the bottom of this lane turn right, and at the next Junction go straight over Horndean Rd. (Right/Left dogleg), staying on Southleigh Rd., toward Denvilles, go over the railway crossing and on to the traffic light junction with the main Havant road,(21.1) turn right and continue until you reach Havant. Retrace your steps from earlier back to the Ship at Langstone (22.7).
